  25.     I've just spent the last two days creating a couple of simple
  26. space combat sequences. Just a couple of ships moving, lasers
  27. firing, and an explosion or three. 
  28.     Actually, it's anything but simple. A nice laser cannon
  29. firing effect requires a nightmare of lights, flares and evelopes
  30. (see Mojo's current Lightwave Pro article for some keen ideas on
  31. the subject). An explosion is similar, with the addition of
  32. fading out the original object and fading in the various debris
  33. objects. And if you're not methotical about what you're doing,
  34. it'd be real easy to leave something out. (I respect those B-5
  35. guys more and more as I learn Lightwave...)

  37.      So, it occurred to me that things would be a lot simpler if
  38. we had "Temporal Parenting". By this I mean, the ability for
  39. envelopes to be triggered by other envelopes. For instance, one
  40. set of laser cannons has a "pre-fire" light and flare for a
  41. couple of frames, then as the laser fires the beam object appears
  42. (well, sizes up) and the light and flare flash much brighter. And
  43. I have to set up matching envelopes for each, EACH TIME. It'd be
  44. great to have a "null temporal object" called "laser cannon-1"
  45. that I could trigger anytime I wanted and have the other
  46. envelopes work off of it.
